The Convention on the Rights of the Child of 1989 defines more precisely the term “child” a child is any human being below the age of eighteen years, unless under the law applicable to the child, majority is attained earlier” Children’s rights are human rights. Children are humans. All humans have rights. Therefore, children have human rights. The International Law that backs the rights of children is the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). This law was adopted by the United Nations in November 1989, it became a law in September 1990. This Convention is widely ratified by the member States of the United Nations except for the United States. This global ratification creates a universal standard of treatment of the child and of respect for his or her rights.

Children’s rights contains four fundamental principles and essential human rights:

the principle of survival, development and protection of the child,

the principle of devotion to best interest of the child,

the Principle of quality and non-discrimination between all children,

the principle of the participation of the child (respect for the views of the child).
